New electrostatic energy analyzer for space plasma measurements

Abstract: = R 2 /R 1 were found and energy function shape and energy resolution ability were calculated. Combination of high energy resolution ability with high transmission and simple design makes this instrument very promising for a wide area of scientific and technological applications, in particular, for space plasma measurements.

“…The set of typical aberration figures numerically calculated is presented in figure 3. All curves have the shape like to a cubic parabola with a central inflection point, indicating the sharp second-order focusing [7,8]. A higher value of G is very suitable for measurements of charged particles flows with larger energies, because they can be controlled by a lower focusing potential U.…”

“…Calculations were performed by the Runge-Kutta method with the absolute accuracy of the final coordinate about 0.0003 (all lengths are scaled by R 1 ). All details of the calculation were similar to given in our papers [7,8], where calculations have been made for a set of geometrical parameter β ranging from 2 to near 4, and the length of the analyser l used was ranging from 4 to 6. The second-order focusing regimes have been found for all these values by a corresponding choice of dimensionless energy coefficient G = E 0 /eU 0 (with E -initial kinetic energy of a particle and U 0 -the bending potential applied to the outer cylinder).…”

“…Otherwise, they usually need to be provided with additional lenses. In our papers [16][17][18] we investigated focusing properties of modified cylindrical field for flows of non-relativistic charged particles from a remote sources. Nowadays a number of scientific problems is faced with needing the measuring high-energy electrons, therefore, schemes of analyzers which are able to solve these tasks are also considered.…”
