“…Zoophycos ichnofacies refers to a very shallow lagoonal, quiet water environment of the Baluti Formation in the studied section. This is indicated by the low diversity of skeletal grains inferring stressful conditions related to significant salinity variations and/or a restricted setting of the basin (Giannetti, Tent‐Manclús, & Baeza‐Carratalá, 2017), confirmed by the presence of evaporites recognized in thin sections from the formation. On the other hand, cyanobacteria which is present in the shale of the upper part of the Baluti Formation are phototrophic bacteria that can grew in different aquatic environments, both marine and fresh waters, and tolerate a wide range of water temperature, pH, redox potential, and salinity (Al‐Bassam & Halodová, 2018) in association with the above‐mentioned criteria that may indicate a shallow marine environment for the Baluti Formation.…”
