New genes involved in Yersinia pestis fraction I biosynthesis

Abstract: Antigenic and immunochemical properties of Yersinia pestis fraction I (FI) preparations extracted by different methods were studied with polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies. The existence of mature FI in a form of a complex antigen whose subunits have different genetic control was demonstrated. Galactolipid was shown, with caf1 product, to be the second species-speci®c component of the FI complex molecule and is probably encoded by chromosomal genes. It, like caf1 product, was expressed in higher quantities a… Show more

“…The Y. pestis KM218 strain, is a plasmid-less isogenic derivative of the vaccine strain Y. pestis EV NIIEG [37,38] which was used as a control to study the expression and immunoreactivity of the Y. pestis antigens (F1, Pla, Ymt, etc. ) by immunoblotting.…”

“…At least six individually grown cultures of each strain were analysed in this test. The F1 antigen used to obtain PAb-F1 represented a crude preparation of Y. pestis capsule isolated by the method of Serdobintsev et al [38,41]. …”

“…However, whether induction by temperature occurs through Caf1R has not yet been investigated. Recently, it has been proposed that Caf1A may be associated with a Y. pestis-specific galactolipid (Feodorova and Devdariani, 2001). This moiety can also be extracted from pFra-less strains, suggesting that its biosynthesis depends on as yet unidentified, chromosome-harboured genes.…”
