New guidelines for prediction of antioxidant activity ofLactuca sativaL. varieties based on phytochemicals content and multivariate chemometrics

Abstract: The aim of this study was to establish models for the antioxidant activity (IC 50 ) prediction of lettuce samples (Lactuca sativa L.) using their phytochemicals content (total phenols, chlorophylls, total carotenoids, and vitamin C) by using suitable chemometric methods. In order to select phytochemicals that best describe the antioxidant activity, classification, and regression analysis were conducted. Generalized pair correlation method (GPCM) gave insight which phytochemicals are the most important for the … Show more

“…The physical properties of the food are a good indicator of other properties and quality of food. Using some of the physical properties of food together with chemometric tools is often used in modern food processing industry (Jevrić et al, , ). Artificial neural networks (ANNs) present the mathematical systems that simulate biological neural networks (Zupan & Gasteiger, ).…”

“…The antioxidant activity and bioactive compounds profile of lettuce cultivars Levistro and Murai were investigated using suitable chemometric methods (Jevrić et al, ). Chosen classification and regression analysis were conducted with aim to distinguish the bioactive compounds that best describe the antioxidant activity.…”

“…MLR is widely used for different types of predictions and modeling in food and agricultural industry, that is , for antioxidant activity prediction of beetroot (Kovačević et al, ) and lettuce samples (Jevrić et al, ). Its goal is to quantitate the relationship between several independent variables and one dependent variable.…”

“…The result of PCA analysis is shown through scores and loadings plots (32). Sum of ranking differences (SRD) is a relatively novel non-parametric ranking approach (33,34) successfully used in different branches of food industry (35,36). Usually, in SRD analysis, the closer SRD value to zero is, the better is the sample.…”
