New homodi-and heterotrinuclear metal complexes of Schiff base compartmental ligand: interaction studies of copper complexes with calf thymus DNA

Abstract: The new homodinuclear complexes 1-4 of the type [LMhave been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and various spectroscopic techniques. The homodinuclear complexes possess two different environments (N 2 and N 2 O 2 donor sets) for holding the metal ions. The metal ion in N 2 set exhibits square planar geometry with two chloride ions in the inner sphere but rhombic structure is found in tetradentate N 2 O 2 Schiff base cavity while in heterotrinuclear complexes Sn IV atom is in the octahedral en… Show more

“…The 1 H, 13 of glucosamine moiety, respectively. The 1 H NMR spectra of complexes 1 and 3 revealed signals at d ¼ 4.26e2.83 ppm and 3.99e2.80 ppm respectively, attributed to the skeletal protons of the D-GlcN and CH 2 protons of linker 1,8-diamino-3,6-diazaoctane.…”

“…The 13 C NMR spectrum of the ligand, displays the signals of 6 carbons of the linker 1,8-diamino-3,6-diazaoctane in the range 49.68e45.59 ppm, and 74.43e49.86 ppm for the 12 carbons of D-glucosamine. The 13 C NMR spectra of the complexes 1 and 3 displayed the signals at 48.92e41.05 and 48.87e39.30 ppm, respectively assigned to the six carbons of the linker amine.…”

“…S6) and the SA fluorescence spectra have been corrected before the experimental data processing [67,68]. Addition of Co(III) complexes (1)(2)(3) to BSA results in relatively moderate fluorescence quenching (up to 34.88% of the initial fluorescence intensity of BSA for 1, 20.31% for 2, and 28.39% for 3 as calculated after the correction of the initial fluorescence spectra (Fig. 8), due to possible changes in protein secondary structure of BSA indicating the binding of the compounds to BSA [69].…”

“…The interaction of transition metal complexes with DNA has been considered as an intensive area in the aspect of the development of newer materials for the application in biotechnology and medicine [1,2]. The effects of size, shape, hydrophobicity and charge on the binding of the complex to DNA was studied by changing the type of hetero aromatic ligand or metal center [3,4].…”
