New hydroxypyridinone-functionalized sepharoses as sorbing agents for hard metal ions

“…Hydroxypyridinone bidentate ligands have been used as building blocks to construct polymeric matrices for the sequestering of hard metal ions, in particular, recently reported (3,4-HP)-functionalized sepharoses and silicas. The chelating sepharose gels, obtained via the reaction of N -alkylamine-3,4-HP’s and CNBr- or epoxy-activated sepharoses, showed high resistance against decomposition under highly acidic conditions highlighting their likely reusability as metal ion sorbents [ 92 ].
