New indications of potential rat intestinal α-glucosidase inhibition by Syzygium zeylanicum (L.) and its hypoglycemic effect in mice

(SZE) possessed relatively high antioxidant activity and the extract of this plant could reduce postprandial hyperglycemia in the rat model after 1.5–2 h of treatment (Wang et al, 2019). Methanol extract of SZE possessed higher α‐glucosidase inhibitory activity than that of acarbose (IC 50 values of 109 and 540 μg/ml, respectively) (Nguyen et al, 2019). In addition, the treatment with the extract at the dose of 100–200 mg/kg body weight for 1–1.5 h also reduced blood glucose level in streptozotocin‐induced diabetic rat models.…”
