Abstract:In recent years, low-valent chemical species such as radicals and carbenes, which have been recognized as short-lived intermediates, have been isolated by appropriate molecular design, and their chemical properties have been investigated in detail experimentally. In particular, the discovery of isolable carbenes, which are now widely used as indispensable ligands in coordination chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry, has enabled the development of novel highly active catalysts.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
