New Intelligent Semi-Products based on Recycled Carbon Fibres

Abstract: The carbon fibre recycling industry is not yet able to operate at full capacity. This lack of potential is a repercussion of a low demand for recycled carbon fibres (rCF) to manufacture new composite materials. As a matter of fact, few semi-products containing recycled carbon fibres are available on the market. Moreover, rCF semi-products available do not allow to manufacture high performances composite parts. The MANIFICA project, based on highly realigned carbon fibres after steam thermolysis, aims at produc… Show more

“…In this study two binders were compared: an epoxy powder [5] and a PA6 powder. The major assets of this process are the alignment and the length of the fibres within the tape [4]. While long fibres provide strength to the composite, fibres alignment provides its stiffness [6].…”

“…Standard modulus fibres were chosen to manufacture the tape, fibres were chopped using a guillotine at 100-150 mm length. A 32mm width tapes were produced using the alignment process [4]. To manufacture unidirectional fabrics, tapes were assembled then cut into 280x150 mm preforms.…”
