New light on the Holocene shore displacement curve on Lista, the southernmost part of Norway

Vegetation history and human impact during the last 11 500 years at Lista, the southernmost part of Norway. Based primarily on Professor Ulf Hafsten's material and diary from 1955–1957

“…There is also a slight fall in the Ulmus curve. AP values rise to c. 90% in diagrams from sheltered localities, but are below this value on the exposed low-lying Listalandet (Prosch- Danielsen 1997). These features can be seen from spectra 27, 19 and 22/23 at lake Hallandsvann, Monatjcmn and Prasstvann respectively.…”

“…In the low-lying outer coastal areas, the Tapes transgression flooded large areas lying below 6-8 m at this time (Andersen 1960, Hoeg 1995, Prosch-Danielsen 1997, but some hills and bog areas above 6-8 m were not affected and probably remained forested. The finds of huge stumps of Pimis sylvestris and Quercus robur in some of these bog areas show that at least 'small islands' had a tree cover (Stangeland 1897a, b, Holmboe 1903.…”

“…Listalandet probably had an unfavourable local climate at this time compared with that of the Eigebakken locality, and arboreal birch forests may have become extinct. The lowest parts of Listalandet, being rather exposed, may have been influenced by sea-level fluctuations (Andersen 1960, Prosch-Danielsen 1997. The finds of Filipendula pollen suggest a mean July temperature no less .than 8-9°C (Kolstrup 1979), and Paus (1992) (Hoeg 1995).…”
