Two kinds of modified melamine–formaldehyde (MF) resin with high impact strength were prepared, especially the modified MF resin with the special “building blocks” structure. First, three copolymers (HMM‐PEGDGE, HMM‐PPGDGE, and HMM‐C12‐14AGE) of glycidyl ether [polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDGE), polypropylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PPGDGE), C12‐14 alkyl glycidyl ether (C12‐14AGE)] and hexahydroxymethyl melamine (HMM) were synthesized and proved by FTIR and 1H NMR. Then, the copolymers were mixed with melamine–formaldehyde resin water solution to prepare samples (EMM1‐PEs, EMM1‐PP, and EMM1‐C12‐14) through drying and hot pressing. The results indicated that the addition of HMM‐PEGDGE could significantly improve the impact strength of EMM1‐PEs, much higher than EMM1‐PP and EMM1‐C12‐14. Meanwhile, PEGDGE was also directly mixed with melamine–formaldehyde resin water solution and made into samples (EMM2‐PEs). The results showed that the impact strength of EMM2‐PEs was also higher than pure MF but lower than EMM1‐PEs. The impact strength of EMM1‐PE‐20 reached 9.46 kJ/m2, about two times that of pure MF. The mechanism of EMM1‐PEs with high impact strength was ascribed to the special “building blocks” structure, which had the flexible HMM‐PEGDGE block, could cause many cracks because of the poor compatibility between HMM‐PEGDGE and melamine–formaldehyde resin.

The conditions and methods for obtaining polyurethane foams based on melamine-formaldehyde-cyclohexanone resins are presented These foams were obtained from melamine solution in reactive solvents based on cyclohexanone and 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate. Some properties of obtained polyurethane foams were examined, e.g. apparent density, water absorbing capacity, dimensional stability, thermal conductivity, thermal stability, flammability and compression strength. Also a thermal analysis using the differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry methods was carried out. Polyurethane foams with increased thermal stability were obtained.

UV-curable cyclohexanone-formaldehyde (UVCF) resin was prepared with cyclohexanone-formaldehyde (CF) resin, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) as base substance, bridging agent, and functional monomer, respectively. The structure of UVCF was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR),1H-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The viscosity and photopolymerization behavior of the UV-curable formulations were studied. The thermal stability and mechanical properties of the cured films were also investigated. The results showed that UVCF resin was successfully prepared, the number of average molecular weight was about 2010, and its molecular weight distribution index was 2.8. With the increase of UVCF resin content, the viscosity of the UV-curable formulations increased. After exposure to UV irradiation for 230 s, the photopolymerization conversion of the UV-curable formulations was above 80%. Moreover, when the UVCF content was 60%, the formulations had high photopolymerization rate, and the cured UVCF films showed good thermal stability and mechanical properties.
