New method for quantification of dye sorption using SBA mesoporous silica as a target sorbent

Abstract: In this work, a new method for the quantification of methyl violet cationic dye sorption onto SBA-15 mesoporous silica was developed. This method related the intensity of coloration of SBA-15 samples (after reached equilibrium sorption) within dye concentration in aqueous solution using Image-Pro Plus software. The sorption process of methyl violet dye onto SBA-15 was analyzed varying different initial parameters (dye concentration, mass of sorbent, pH of dye solution, and contact sorption time). SBA-15 proved… Show more

“…For comparison purposes, the same experiment has been performed with the mesoporous silica, SBA‐15. SBA‐15 was chosen since there is a growing interest in using this adsorbent for the removal of various pollutants due to its high surface area, pore volume, and tunable pore size . The results of the adsorption experiments with the highest initial dye concentration are reported in Table and compared with similar results published in the literature for different types of active carbons.…”

“…[17] However, due to the high cost of production and low levels of regeneration of such a material, the market is trying to replace this adsorbent. [18][19][20][21][22][23] Additionally, the possibility to reuse both dyes and adsorbent materials is another important challenge of research related to the possibility of recycling dyes and adsorbent, in the viewpoint of a circular eco-sustainable economy (material recycling and product re-use). [6] Sorbents based on mesoporous silica have attained considerable attention due to their highly ordered structure, nanometer-sized pores, and their high surface area.…”
