New Methods of Assessing Static and Dynamic Flow Characteristics of Textiles

Abstract: This paper presents a new approach to assessing textile static air permeability, which consists of taking into account the nonlinearity and nonsymmetry of flow characteristics. The second part of the paper attempts to assess a new characteristic of textiles called "dynamic permeability."Textiles are special kinds of porous bodies, threedimensional materials that, in a definite volume, contain elements with extremely different flow characteristics: those that are completely impermeable and have the characteristi… Show more

“…Hong et al described the dynamics of formation of a microclimate between clothing and human skin [6]; however, they were concerned with low rates of flow-variation in time. In earlier work, we reported the essence of studies of rapid, impact flow changes [3,5,8]. The material presented here is a continuation and extension of these articles.…”

“…Dynamic air permeability assessment was investigated by Gniotek and Tokarski [6] in their work. To measure dynamic air permeability, the authors use a device which has an air-tight piston moving in a cylinder attached in the position of the fastening clamp.…”

“…Furthermore type A standard uncertainty u a (4), (5) is determined from the repeated measurement of a textile sample on the MPT01 device, and it is then the experimental standard deviation of the mean. The user subsequently uses this value (together with u b * ) when evaluating the combined standard uncertainty of type C u c (6) and expanded uncertainty U with the coverage factor K (7) to obtain the uncertainty of the particular measurement…”
