New Post-Imaging Software Provides Fast and Accurate Volume Data from CTA Surveillance after Endovascular Aneurysm Repair

Abstract: The Vitrea workstation provides fast and accurate volume data from spiral CTA follow-up of endovascular aneurysm repair. This software may enhance the acceptability of volume surveillance in daily practice.

“…This greater distribution may equate to a greater ability to detect which AAAs have progressed over time. Total AAA volume analysis has been successfully employed in patients following endoluminal AAA repair 103,105107. For example, Wever et al (2000) discovered that one third of patients had significant volume change without maximal orthogonal diameter change 106.…”

“…10,11 The mean difference between the volume measurement with the manual method on the EasyVision workstation and the true volume of the phantom was 20.7 mL (20.4%), with a RC of 2.2 mL (1.3%). 10 In this study by Yeung et al, 10 the Vitrea workstation was compared to the EasyVision workstation. The Vitrea measurements were made by drawing aortic contour lines on 5 to 8 axial slices, which were then interpolated to the total aneurysm volume.…”

“…The purpose of this study was to compare intra-and interobserver variability data of a previously validated manual segmentation method and a semi-automatic method that uses CLL reconstructions. 10,11 METHODS Volume measurements were performed on 20 abdominal CTA datasets (10 pre and 10 post EVAR), which were randomly selected from the clinical database of our institution. The datasets were from 14 AAA patients (12 men; mean age 70 years, range 57-87); in 6 patients, a pre-and a postoperative scan were selected.…”

“…The analyzed workstation has already proven to be effective for automatic and rapid estimation of the volume of abdominal aortic aneurysms [15], for detection of colorectal polyps with MSCT [16], and for 3D volume rendering for accurate measurements for dental implant placement [17]. Our results show that automatic vessel detection for display of the coronary vessels on curved MPRs and on planes orthogonal to the vessel is feasible with the workstation, while reducing the time required to create reformations by a factor of approximately two.…”
