New powder diffractometer at HASYLAB/DESY

Abstract: The new powder diffractometer installed on the beamline B2 at HASYLAB/DESY is described. It features a new design with a blocked double circle plus a third single circle which can be translated towards one another. The wide space between the two circle units conveniently holds complicated and spacious attachments and makes the instrument especially suitable for measurements under controlled environment conditions.

“…The ground powders were mixed with a binder and packed into the sample holder. The diffraction experiment was performed on the Aachen/Frankfurt (Darmstadt)/Tiibingen powder diffractometer (Arnold et al, 1989) with synchrotron radiation of ~ = 1.2122A from an Si(511) monochromator at beamline B2 of HASYLAB at DESY, Hamburg, Germany. The furnace was described by Arnold (1991).…”

“…Therefore, the instrumental resolution of the new setup at P02.1 (PETRA III) is related to the extensively used in situ setup at B2 (DORIS III). Detailed information about this beamline is available in the literature (Arnold et al, 1989;Pennartz et al, 1992;Lö chner et al, 1993;. Typically a wavelength of about 0.7 Å was set at B2, close to the maximum flux at this beamline.…”

“…• For precise phases identification of as-quenched Al-17Ni and Al-17Ni-2Sr samples high-resolution XRD measurements were performed at B2 [17] (bending magnet beamline) at room temperature. The samples measured in transmission mode were illuminated by well collimated and monochromatic photon beam of energy E = 26.11 keV (λ = 0.4748Å).…”
