New Record of Echinoderms from Gili Ketapang Island by Combining DNA Barcoding and Morphology: A Baseline Report

Abstract: Echinoderms are marine water invertebrates that are showing diverse morphologies and grouped in five classes, however the reports on this species from Gili Ketapang Island, East Java is currently limited. DNA barcodes (DNA fragments of the 5' end of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene, COI) have been used to support the morphological examination in identifying evolutionary lineages. This study aims to identify the morphology and supplement of COI sequence and phylogenetic of Echinoderms from Gili Ketapang … Show more

“…The similarity in amino acid residue positions supports the inhibitory activity of these fatty acids as antihypertensive agents (Nugroho et al, 2023). The similarity in inhibition positions indicates that fatty acids will inhibit the receptor at the same position as the control drug, which can be used to validate the docking results and support the findings obtained.…”

“…Potential compounds were those with binding affinity values lower than captopril. The conformers of potential compounds were then interacted with using PyMOL and visualized using Discovery Studio to determine the position and types of interactions formed (Nugroho et al, 2023).…”

“…Phenotype refers to a visible, observable, or measurable attribute or characteristic. An organism's phenotype is determined by genetics and the environment [16][17][18]. Morphometrics pertain to characteristics related to the physical dimensions of an organism, such as total body length and the size of specific body parts.…”

“…Molecular analysis can distinguish between cryptic species of anchovies by looking at differences in DNA sequence (Trivedi et al, 2016). COI (Cytochrome C Oxidase subunit I) is a mitochondrial gene commonly used as a molecular marker for DNA barcoding of some marine organisms such as fish (Liu et al, 2020;Sudibyo et al, 2020;Dwifajri et al, 2022), mollusk (Juniar et al, 2021;Kholilah et al, 2021;Nasution et al, 2021), crustacea (Fajarallah et al, 2019Ng et al, 2022;Lastria et al, 2023), Echinodermata (Amin et al, 2020;Sulardiono et al, 2022;Nugroho et al, 2022) and corals (Insafitri et al, 2023). The COI gene's DNA sequence can help identify and distinguish cryptic species that may appear morphologically identical.…”
