“…However, DULČIĆ & SOLDO (2008), found a mature spawner male during the winter period. Regarding Z. cristatus, previous studies reported that the spawning period of this species usually takes place between spring and summer seasons (DULČIĆ, 2002;PSOMADAKIS et al, 2007, BRADAI & OUAER, 2012; nevertheless, Z. cristatus eggs have been collected during summer-fall period at Middle Atlantic Bight (OLNEY, J.E. & A. Bradai & El Ouaer (2012) also caught this fish on the Tunisian coast and determined the total length of the fish as 170 mm. Psomadakis et al, (2007) reported that Zu cristatus reaches a maximum length of 118 cm.…”

“…Two recent studies by Tiralongo and colleagues collected some different occurrences in the central part of the basin involving all of the Tyrrhenian Sea in latitudinal extension (from Capraia to Vibo Valentia), and the Ionian Sea [ 24 , 212 ]. In 2012, Bradai and El Ouaer [ 225 ] studied a specimen in depth, which was captured in 1954 in Tunisian waters (Gulf of Tunis) previously described by Postel in 1955 [ 226 ], and was conserved in the oceanographic museum of the Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (Salammbô, Tunisia). Comparing that specimen with a new one that occurred in 2009 in Mahdia, the authors confirmed the presence of Z. cristatus in the southern part of the central Mediterranean Sea [ 225 , 226 ].…”
