New records of benthic hydroids (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) from the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico

Abstract: Hydroids of the Pacific coast of Mexico have been little studied. For the coast of Oaxaca, only five papers provide information on species of the region, with some records included in those publications being questionable. Seven species, Pennaria disticha, Clytia linearis, Clytia cf. gracilis, Obelia dichotoma, Ventromma halecioides, Dynamena crisioides and Tridentata turbinata, were discovered during the study and are reported herein. Of these species, Pennaria disticha and Tridentata turbinata are new record… Show more

“…The gonosome of this hydroid has nevertheless been reported infrequently. Gonothecae observed here were similar to those described by Vervoort (1959, as S. turbinata), Millard (1975, as S. turbinata), Hirohito (1995, Ferry (2015, as S. turbinata), andHumara-Gil &Cruz Gomez (2018). In being barrel-shaped with transverse ridges and a large distal orifice, they resemble those occurring in a group of related species including T. marginata (Kirchenpauer, 1864), T. tumida (Allman, 1877), T. rugosissima (Thornely, 1904), and T. perpusilla (Stechow, 1919).…”

“…Only S. tubulosa and B. muscus have been reported in other coastal lagoons from southern Gulf of Mexico (Mendoza-Becerril et al, 2009;Cortés-Lacomba et al, 2013). genic because of its multiple records around the world (Humara-Gil & Cruz-Gómez, 2018).This is a genus with a worldwide distribution and frequently related to coastal zones (Nagata et al, 2014).…”
