“…However, only a few pests and diseases were identified in Guinea-Bissau (Table 1), with no reports on the impact on cashew productivity. Pests that were widely reported in other West African countries as causing significant losses in cashew production [21] could also be identified in Guinea-Bissau (e.g., Apate terebrans Pallas, Analeptes trifasciata Fabricius) [25]. For instance, the trunk and root borer-Plocaederus ferrugineus L.-which is considered a pest of increasing importance in Nigeria [26], was recorded for the first time in Guinea-Bissau in 2014.…”

“…For instance, the trunk and root borer-Plocaederus ferrugineus L.-which is considered a pest of increasing importance in Nigeria [26], was recorded for the first time in Guinea-Bissau in 2014. However, its effect on production losses remains to be determined [25]. Moreover, diseases caused by fungi can lead to severe damage across cashew-producing countries.…”

“…In Guinea-Bissau, a study on new records of insect pest species associated with cashew, [61], reported Plocaederus ferrugineus, Apate terebrans and weaver ants as major pests of concern to cashew production. Their findings on the weaver ant as one of the major insect species affecting cashew production has been corroborated by this study.…”

“…This study would like to understand the relationship between cashew tree density and the damage caused by Apate terebrans (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae), one of the main insect pests of this crop in West Africa, particularly in Côte d'Ivoire (Aliko and Ouali N'Goran 2022;Topper et al 2001). The adult of this insect can cause the death of 30% of cashew trees, through the galleries it digs in the sapwood of the tree, in which it feeds and lives (Agboton et al 2017;Vasconcelos et al 2014). It is present in almost all cashew-producing regions in Côte d'Ivoire (Kouadio et al 2023), and control methods are mainly based on synthetic chemical products (Soro et al 2020b).…”
