New records of the crambid moth Euclasta splendidalis (Herrich-Schäffer, [1848]) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in Croatia with notes on Pyraloidea fauna from the Neretva Valley

Abstract: In the following paper, new information about the occurrence of the pyraloid moth Euclasta splendidalis (Herrich-Schäffer, [1848]) in Croatia is presented. Although this species from the microlepidopterous family Crambidae was presented as a new one in the Croatian fauna in 2012, three specimens were discovered during an examination of a large number of pyraloid moths collected by Mladen Kučinić in the 1990s. These specimens of Euclasta splendidalis were collected during several field trips to the Neretva Vall… Show more

“…this long-term study started in 2016 and is still being carried out, including in inland Croatia. the results of these surveys contribute to the knowledge of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia (Gumhalter, 2021;Gumhalter et al, 2018), especially of the least-studied inland and mountainous biogeographic zones (Gumhalter et al, 2020;gumhalter & Kučinić, 2020gumhalter & Kučinić, , 2021. During a moth survey carried out in inland Croatia in July 2021, the species s. rhenella was recorded.…”

“…Many of the faunistic papers published on Croatian Lepidoptera in the last two centuries included Pyraloidea species (Abafi-Aigner et al, 1896;Galvagni, 1902;Mann, 1857Mann, , 1867Mann, , 1869Rebel, 1891Rebel, , 1895Rebel, , 1903Rebel, , 1904Rebel, , 1917Schawerda, 1921;etc.). Although the superfamily has also been the subject of many recent investigations, especially in the last two decades (Habeler, 2003, Fazekas, 2009, Koren, 2015, 2018, 2021 , Šumpich & Skyva, 2012, Šumpich, 2013, Plant & Jakšić, 2018, Gumhalter, 2020, Gumhalter et al, 2018, 2020, Gumhalter & Kučinić, 2021, the distribution and status of many species that were reported only from historical literature remain unknown.…”
