New sample cell configuration for wide-frequency dielectric spectroscopy: DC to radio frequencies

Abstract: A new configuration for the sample cell to be used in broadband dielectric spectroscopy is presented. A coaxial structure with a parallel plate capacitor (outward parallel plate cell: OPPC) has made it possible to extend the frequency range significantly in comparison with the frequency range of the conventional configuration. In the proposed configuration, stray inductance is significantly decreased; consequently, the upper bound of the frequency range is improved by two orders of magnitude from the upper lim… Show more

“…In principle, methods for the dielectric spectroscopy of materials are available at frequencies up to the upper microwave region [374]. Currently, development is mainly directed to the refining of special sample cells or sensor designs [129,259,388,[396][397][398][399][400][401][402][403][404][405], often with a view to specific applications [259,388,397,401,[403][404][405], as well as to improvements of measurement methods and evaluation procedures [406][407][408][409][410][411][412]. Microwave 'laboratory-on-a-chip' devices [396,399], enabling the characterization of samples with volumes on a nanolitre scale, offer promising applications in biology, medicine and pharmaceutics.…”
