New species of Bulbophyllum (Orchidaceae) in the flora of Vietnam Ⅱ

Abstract: Three species, Bulbophyllum layae, B. metallica and B. papilligerum (all from sect. Cirrhopetalum) are described as new for science. All of these novelties are local endemics of limestone areas of northern Vietnam. Additionally, three species, B. alcicorne (sect. Brachystachya), B. psittacoglossum and B. yunnanense (both from sect. Sestochilus) are recorded for the flora of Vietnam for the first time. These species have wide distribution in mainland Asia. Data on ecology, phenology, distribution, brief relevan… Show more

“…Noteworthy, despite a long history of orchid research, scientists are still finding many new species in the tropical areas e.g., [53][54][55]-only in 2020 more than 100 orchids were described, most of them from South America [56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63] and tropical Asia [64][65][66][67][68][69]. Unfortunately, the taxonomists did not analyze the chemical properties of their secondary metabolites and their potential medicinal usefulness remains unrecognized.…”

“…The genus Bulbophyllum Thouars is one of the largest plant genera, with well over 2000 species in the tropics and subtropics worldwide (Pridgeon et al 2014). So far, about 145 species in 16 sections have been recorded for Vietnam (Averyanov & Averyanova 2003, Nong & Averyanov 2015, Averyanov et al 2016, Truong & Sridith 2016, Averyanov et al 2018, 2019c, Averyanov et al 2019a.…”
