New species of Pisionidens (Sigalionidae, Annelida) from Akumal, México

Abstract: Pisionidens Aiyar & Alikuhni, 1943 is a genus of small scale-less annelids formerly belonging to the family 'Pisionidae', now synonymized with the scale worm family Sigalionidae. A new species from Akumal, México, Pisionidens ixazaluohae n. sp., is herein described, including a genetic barcode, and diagnosed by parapodia from segment 8, males having a continuous line of midventral pores, and the presence of a single copulatory segment without parapodia. The new species differs in morphology from the three prev… Show more

“…The remaining interstitial species were recovered within the Sigalionidae complex subfamilies Pisioninae and Pholoinae. Pisioninae represented a well‐supported clade in all analyses, and included 13 Pisione species and two Pisionidens, of which one was recently described (Petersen et al., ).…”

“…Detailed character descriptions and their states are listed in Appendix . Characters were selected based on ongoing phylogenetic studies on the relationships between Aphroditiformia families and major clades (Gonzalez, Petersen, Martinez, & Worsaae, ), as well as previous reviews of the genera Pisione and Pisionidens (Petersen, Gonzalez, Martínez, & Worsaae, ; Salcedo et al., ; Yamanishi, ). The final matrix of scored characters for all taxa included in this study is listed in Table .…”
