New systematic assignments in Gonyleptoidea (Arachnida, Opiliones, Laniatores)

Abstract: As part of an ongoing revision of the family Gonyleptidae, we have identified many species that are synonyms of previously described species or misplaced in this family. This article summarizes these findings, adding previously unavailable information or correcting imprecise observations to justify the presented taxonomic changes. The following new familial or subfamilial assignments are proposed: Nemastygnus Roewer, 1929 and Taulisa Roewer, 1956 are transferred to Agoristenidae, Agoristeninae; Napostygnus Roe… Show more

“…For example, Napostygnus Roewer, , recently allocated to Cranaidae by Pinto‐da‐Rocha et al . (), could be a member of the Nomoclastinae based on the short stylus associated with a columnar glans, lack of MS B, and MS C not clustered forming a spaced lateral row. However, there are some important diagnostic characters regarding microsetae and MS E unknown.…”

“…In modern papers, the male genitalia became a mandatory set of characters to be included in taxonomical descriptions of Opiliones, and their importance for familial allocation have been continuously proved and reinforced ( e.g. Pérez-González 2011; Pinto-da-Rocha et al 2012, Kury 2014). But in some cases, even addition of the morphological information from the male genitalia is not enough to decide the familial placement ( e.g.…”
