“…These substances are a hot-topic for drug researchers regarding legislation, clinical treatment, and potentially vulnerable demographics. This body of research has emphasized the internet as a primary source of drug information (Deluca and Schifano, 2007: 479;Eurobarometer, 2014: 5;Gray et al, 2005;Stetina et al, 2008) and has thus focused on legal-high information from drug wiki websites, legal-high distributors, and satisfaction of legal-high users (Bruneel et al, 2014;Davies et al, 2010;Deluca et al, 2012;Halpern and Pope, 2001;Hillebrand et al, 2010;Schifano et al, 2006aSchifano et al, , 2006bSchmidt et al, 2011;Vardakou et al, 2011;Wax, 2002). However, little attention has been given as to how information is created in the first place and, in particular, to how the internet-mediated context of information sharing might shape the knowledge created and shared.…”

“…In fact, one could think that more densely populated urban neighbourhoods are more likely to present with illicit sales of substances. Traditionally, there are two identifiable illicit drug markets (14,15). The "street market" is particularly represented in large metropolitan areas and usually provides heroin and crack cocaine; it is run by hierarchical organized crime, using mobile phone communications, with all participants controlled by the threat of actual violence.…”

“…NPS have been reported in many countries in recent years. What is actually known today, however, maybe just the very tip of the iceberg, as systematic studies on the diffusion of NPS do not exist [9], except for single substances [13, 14]. …”

“…The consumption of NPS in Italy in 2011 was estimated to be about 1%, placing the country 27th out of 28 European countries in the ranking of NPS use [14]. In the last years, the Italian Department of Drug Control has promoted the development of a concise update on the main features of identified NPS, developing as well a series of strategic guidelines, objectives, and actions in order to begin constructing a response to tackle this emerging issue [15].…”
