Next-generation 3D visualization for visual surveillance

Abstract: Existing visual surveillance systems typically require that human operators observe video streams from different cameras, which becomes infeasible if the number of observed cameras is ever increasing. In this paper, we present a new surveillance system that combines automatic video analysis (i.e., single person tracking and crowd analysis) and interactive visualization. Our novel visualization takes advantage of a high resolution display and given 3D information to focus the operator's attention to interesting… Show more

“…It has a floor plan map for the operator to navigate the 3D scene model of the building and track persons. Although it shows the importance of interactive visualization for next generation visual surveillance [6], it is a pity that lack of multiplicity in camera sensors and algorithms makes it incomplete to be a 3GSS system.…”

“…Efforts on real time reconstruction of 3D dynamic scenes receive great interest in intelligent surveillance [13], video communication and augmented reality systems. Obtaining realistic 4D video flows of real world scenarios may result in a significantly improved visual experience for the observer compared to watching conventional video streams, since a reconstructed 4D scene can be viewed and analysed from an arbitrary viewpoint, and virtually modified by the user.…”
