“…2 A π-bond interaction between the double bond and the metal-ligand bond is responsible for the short C=C and Pt-P bond distances. 8,14,15 Contrarily to our expectation, attempts to obtain excitation spectra of 4, both in the solid state and in solution were not successfull. The spectra were not well-resolved, showed low emission and were very dificult to interpret.…”

“…In the related complex cis-[PtCl 2 (dppen)] 8 complex the C=C bond distance was found to be 1.315(5) Å. Diphosphine complexes that exhibit short C=C and Pt-P bond lengths, such as the above mentioned, are described as presenting a π bonding interation between the double bond and the metal-ligand bond. 8,14,15 In some cases this leads to completely planar structures, although in other cases deviation from the coplanarity is observed, due to crystal packing effect as found in the two crystal modifications of cis-[PtCl 2 (dppen)]. 8,15 In one of them the square-planar coordination of the platinum atom is slighttly distorted 8 and in the other one it is completely planar.…”

“…Henderson et al [4] and Traeger [5] have used electrospray ionization (ESI) extensively as a mild technique to elucidate the structures of thiosalicylic metal complexes and to study other transition-metal coordination complexes. It has been known since the inception of fast atom bombardment (FAB) as an ionization technique, that it can be used for the analysis of transition-metal coordination complexes [6,7]. We also found that FAB ionization is equally capable of producing MH ϩ ions of the Group 10 metal complexes [2, 3].…”

“…Although the importance of organotin halide-phosphine complexes has been realized in the catalysis of ring opening of a,b-epoxyketones [14], the lack of structural understanding is perhaps responsible for not using organotin-phosphine complexes as potential catalysts. The difference in reactivity between cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphoshino)ethylene (cis-dppen) and its saturated analogue, dppe with various transition metals has been observed in a number of studies [15][16][17][18]. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the interaction of the rigid bisphosphine cis-dppen with monoorganotin chlorides.…”
