Abstract:Millions of tons of “acetyls” such as acetic acid and acetic anhydride are produced each year. These basic building blocks of chemical industry are elaborated into esters, amides, and eventually polymer materials, pharmaceuticals, and other consumer products. The vast majority of acetyls are produced industrially using homogeneous catalysis, but exclusively using scarce and expensive precious metal catalysts (principally rhodium and iridium complexes). We report here that nickel catalysts supported by N-hetero… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
