NiCo2S4‐Based Composite Materials for Supercapacitors

Abstract: In recent years, spinel‐type NiCo2S4 has been intensively studied as a supercapacitive material as it has a high theoretical capacitance, and is inexpensive and easy to synthesize. However, NiCo2S4 alone as an electrode material suffers from the drawback of an unsatisfactory cycling stability. In order to achieve better electrochemical performances, NiCo2S4‐based composite materials have been developed for supercapacitors. In this Review, some recent research progress on NiCo2S4‐based composite materials for s… Show more

“…The Ni1.5Co1.5S4/g-C3N4//AC supercapacitor delivers high energy density of 49.0 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 799.0 W kg −1 . These values surpass those of previously reported symmetric and asymmetric supercapacitors based on g-C3N4 composites, such as g-C3N4@Ni(OH)2 [24], ZnS/g-C3N4 [42] and porous g-C3N4 [43][44][45].…”

“…8,9 In particular, nickel cobalt suldes (NCSs) have become one of the most concerned ternary suldes, mainly due to their relatively high electrical conductivity, multiple valence states and rich crystallographic structures. 10,11 It is generally considered that nickel holds tetrahedral sites, while cobalt takes over both octahedral and tetrahedral sites within spinel NiCo 2 S 4 (Fig. 1).…”

“…Lately, transition metal sulfides including NiS, CuS, Co 9 S 8 , and NiCo 2 S 4 have been found to be promising electrode materials for faradaic electrochemical capacitors 25 – 27 . Amongst ternary Ni-Co sulfides, NiCo 2 S 4 has attracted increasing attention as a new material in supercapacitors, because of its better electronic conductivity and higher capacity compared to nickel and cobalt sulfide, and oxide 28 , 29 . Numerous nanostructures of NiCo 2 S 4 with different morphologies such as nanowires, nanotubes, and nanosheets arrays can be synthesized and deposited or directly grown on the conductive substrates, showing remarkable cycling stability 30 32 .…”
