Abstract: Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by alpha-synuclein aggregation and loss of dopamine (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra. Risk of PD arises due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors, which may interact, termed gene-environment (GxE) interactions.
