Nisin reduces uterine inflammation in rats by modulating concentrations of pro‐ and anti‐inflammatory cytokines

Abstract: Problem The Staphylococcus aureus has been found to be associated with clinical endometritis of cow. The result of oral antibiotic remains poor. Therefore, this study investigates the role of nisin in endometritis. Method of study The effect of nisin on the growth and cell wall of S aureus were determined in vitro. Besides the blank control group, animals with established post‐partum were inoculated with 0.1 mL S aureus intravaginally. Two days post‐inoculation, the animals were administered nisin (25 mg/kg), … Show more

“…Nisin also significantly decreased the endometritis-induced increase in uterine weight, restored endometrial architecture, and significantly normalized uterine neutrophils to control levels. 99 Another study revealed the clinical potential for nisin as a safe probiotic for cervicovaginal epithelial cells. Nisin did not affect vaginal epithelial cell viability, morphology, and structural integrity compared with a sodium dodecyl sulfate gel or placebo gel in rabbits.…”

“…A recent study reported that nisin compared favorably with kanamycin in mediating a decrease in pro‐inflammatory cytokines triggered by Staphylococcus aureus infection and in promoting an increase in the level of serum anti‐inflammatory cytokines in the endometrium of rats. Nisin also significantly decreased the endometritis‐induced increase in uterine weight, restored endometrial architecture, and significantly normalized uterine neutrophils to control levels . Another study revealed the clinical potential for nisin as a safe probiotic for cervicovaginal epithelial cells.…”

“…In recent years, research on the relationship between intestinal flora and diseases has become an interesting field, mainly focusing on the relationships between intestinal flora and liver disease, tumor, encephalopathy, autoimmune diseases, reproductive health and so on (1)(2)(3), and studies in this field imply that transplanting gut bacteria could be a new way to prevent and treat some diseases (4). For example, Streptococcus lactate, which plays a role in innate immunity to the reproductive system, can reduce uterine inflammation by regulating the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines (5). However, few studies have been conducted on normal microbiome, and the protective mechanism of the maternal, placental, and fetal immune systems against microbial infection during pregnancy is unclear.…”

“…When the endometrium is invaded by pathogenic bacteria, it will induce a series of inflammatory reactions (Jia et al., 2019). As an important constituent of the endometrium, BEECs are often used to study cow endometritis.…”
