“…Figure 5 illustrates the impact of nitrogen on MCP. The MCP of the Zr-based materials was greatly reduced by the formation of nitrides 7 , while the MCP of Ni/k and Re are reduced, but perform in a manner similar to that when tested using a helium carrier. The reduction in MCP due to the formation of Zr-nitrides is further supported by exposing SAES ® getters to nitrogen before performing methane cracking tests in helium and is shown in Figure 6.…”

“…This exothermic reaction has been seen before for St 909 and was anticipated. 4,7 Water, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide/nitrogen, and hydrogen were released where desorbed/released during activation, but most surprisingly was methane releases. Figure 2 shows methane releases as a function of bed middle temperature: the data between 680 and 720°C appear as a discontinuous function due to the rise and fall in temperature due to the exothermic reaction.…”

“…It is known that such a compound does not exist in the Zr-Mn system [11]. However, it exists in the Zr-Fe system [12]. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis showed the presence of iron (39.54 wt.% after 16 h and 45.88 wt.% after 24 h) in the samples after milling.…”
