Nitrogen-Doped Alkylamine-Intercalated Layered Titanates for Photocatalytic Dye Degradation

Abstract: A layered titanate, K 2 Ti 4 O 9 , is intercalated with various n -alkylamines through ion-exchange reaction in aqueous medium. On heating, the intercalated amine is partially deintercalated, yielding nitrogen-doped amine-intercalated titanates. The modified titanates are studied as catalysts in methylene blue degradation under UV irradiation. Heat-treated long-chain amine titanates exhibit better photocatalytic activit… Show more

“…The degradability of a Rhodamine B dye was monitored by change in its absorption peak at 554 nm. As evident from the figure, the degradation efficiency of the Rhodamine B dye by synthesized ZnO NPs and its calcium composite increased with time [42][43][44] . Although, it has been reported that Rhodamine B dye degrades very slowly, our synthesized samples could effectively degrade it (Figure 6(d-f)).…”

“…The improvement in photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the following two factors: the increase in the interlayer spacing, which increases the surface contact, and nitrogen doping. 215 The silver-doped titanate nanosheets were synthesized by a solvothermal method. The presence of silver facilitates the migration of photogenerated electrons to silver atoms and reduces the recombination rate of photogenerated electron− hole pairs.…”
