Nitrogen-Doped High Surface Area Porous Carbon Material Derived from Biomass and Ionic Liquid for High-Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract: In this work, bioderived high surface area, porous activated carbons (ACs) are synthesized from dried Sterculia foetida (SF) fruit shells via KOH activation. Further, for highperformance supercapacitor (SC) application, the nitrogen-doped AC (NAC) has been derived by pyrolysis of a nitrogen-enriched ionic liquid (IL) and AC mixture. Herein, aprotic 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium dicyanamide ([EMIM][DCN]) IL is used as a nitrogen precursor. A series of NACs has been successfully developed by tuning the weight rat… Show more

“…The CV depicted a rectangular‐shaped plot for both the batches at all the scan rates and current densities, and the GCD appeared a triangle‐shaped plot. These profiles are typically observed for SCs, 4,5 and correspond to capacitive behavior in carbon‐based SCs with fast charging‐discharging capability 32 . The coulomb efficiency of ACRS‐700 is more than 100% at lower current density, for example, at 0.5 A g −1 , which has been discussed in Section S3, Supporting Information.…”

With increase in scan rate, the area of CV curve increases and it is consistent with the Randles-Sevcik equation.…”

“…ILs have a wide range of applications. ILs are used as catalysts, pharmaceuticals, biopolymer processing, stabilization of biomolecules, , CO 2 capture, , sensors, antimicrobial, in batteries, as solvents, in separation and detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and in supercapacitors as electrolyte. , Mainly their use as a solvent has a specific emphasis. In synthesis or any organic reactions, organic solvents are used which are highly volatile, and some are flammable.…”

“…Graphene has been explored in the doped form with N and B. Their prepared composites, nitrides, [22][23][24][25][26] and borides [27][28][29][30][31][32] have unveiled high theoretical and experimental specific capacitance. The hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has followed a line of investigation in its composite form with various metals, materials like poly-aniline, MXenes, etc.…”
