“…The rates ranged from 0.06 mg N m 22 d 21 in winter to a maximum of 1.51 mg N m 22 d 21 in summer, and are of similar magnitude to the only report of whole seagrass community in situ measurements of N 2 fixation from Pereg-Gerk et al (2002, for Halophila stipulacea in the Red Sea). The estimated N 2 fixation on the leaves ranging from 0.02 mg N m 22 d 21 to 1.35 mg N m 22 d 21 calculated in this study are within the range or even higher than those reported in tropical seagrasses (0-0.03 mg N m 22 d 21 , McRoy et al 1973;1.15-3.2 mg N m 22 d 21 , Capone et al 1979;0.48-2. Hamisi et al 2009). However, N 2 fixation was 1 order of magnitude lower compared to the only available previous report on the phyllosphere of P. oceanica of 15 mg N m 22 d 21 that was measured in excised whole leaves placed in the same type of chambers (Agawin et al 2016).…”
