No-Touch Automated Disinfection System Based on Hydrogen Peroxide and Ethyl Alcohol Aerosols for Use in Healthcare Environments

Abstract: Healthcare-related infections are sustained by various bacteria and fungi. In recent years, various technologies have emerged for the sanitation of healthcare-related environments. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a no-touch disinfection system that aerosolizes 5% hydrogen peroxide and 10% ethyl alcohol. After selecting an environment, the Total Bacterial Count and the Total Fungal Count in the air and on a surface of the room were determined to evaluate the effectiveness of the aerosolization system.… Show more

“…There are several limitations to the use of chemical-based disinfectants, such as harmfulness, its corrosive nature and bacterial resistance [ 46 ]. Advanced disinfection technologies, such as self disinfecting materials [ 85 ], anti-viral coatings [ 57 ], automated procedures [ 57 , 86 ], nanoparticle-based disinfectants [ 46 ] and electrostatic spraying methods [ 26 , 87 ], are becoming famous strategies due to their long-lasting and high-precision disinfection. Although such studies highlight new technologies that can enhance the effectiveness of existing methods, they lack comprehensive data that can help in a practical directive solution to the rapidly growing need for disinfection of highly touched fomites.…”

“…Another advantage of nanosilver is that it is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that is non-toxic to humans and animals at 100 ppm or less [6]. Hydrogen peroxide Ag + (H2O2), a solution composed of two hydrogen atoms, two oxygen atoms, and Ag + , is usually used at the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy because it eliminates bacteria for a long time [7]. However, studies on the sterilizing quality of nanosilver in the air of Vietnam hospitals are very limited.…”
