Nocardiopsis coralliicola sp. nov., isolated from the gorgonian coral, Menella praelonga

Abstract: An actinobacterial strain, SCSIO 10427T, was isolated from a gorgonian coral sample collected from Weizhou Island, Guangxi province, China, and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. The organism was found to have a range of chemical and morphological properties consistent with its classification in the genus Nocardiopsis . Phylogenetic analysis indicated that 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity b… Show more

“…Among the 42 hitherto reported species, 13 are halophilic and six are halotolerant. They have been isolated from marine sediments (Fang et al 2011;Meena et al 2013), hypersaline solar salterns (Chun et al 2000;Jose and Jebakumar 2012), saline soils (Al-Tai and Ruan 1994;Li et al 2003;Li et al 2006;Chen et al 2010) and marine biological forms (Chen et al 2009;Li et al 2012). In addition, some species are alkali-tolerant being inherently present in alkali slag dumps, lake soils and sediments (Schippers et al 2002;Yang et al 2008;Mwirichia et al 2010).…”

“…The hemoglobin protease producing strain SCSIO 11720 was isolated from Porites lutea (18°13' N, 109°28' E, Luhuitou fringing reef, Sanya, Hainan province, China) [23]. Coral fragment measuring 2 × 2 cm was airbrushed with sterile seawater in order to obtain tissue slurry.…”

“…marine sediment (Fang et al 2011), gorgonian coral (Li et al 2012), antarctica soil (Xu et al 2014) and feather waste (Saha et al 2013). Many of them prefer moderately alkaline conditions (pH 8.5) (Kroppenstedt 1992) and some grow better on media supplemented with sodium chloride.…”
