Nodal Melanocytic Nevi in Sentinel Lymph Nodes

Abstract: Melanocytic nevi occurring in lymph nodes create diagnostic difficulty by mimicking metastases. Few studies describe nodal nevi in sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) excised for melanoma. We evaluated 72 cases in which patients had undergone SLN biopsy for melanoma. Lymph nodes and cutaneous melanomas were evaluated according to a standard protocol. Nodal nevi were identified in 8 patients (11%). Of these, 6 (75%) had an associated cutaneous nevus (P = .006). Of 21 patients with an associated nevus, 4 (19%) with noda… Show more

“…However, when cytologically compared with the primary melanoma, these nevi are bland nevocellular ag- gregates that do not resemble melanoma. 7 A PubMed database search revealed no reported cases of increased fluorodeoxyglucose F 18 uptake in nodal nevi. Sentinel lymph node dissection confirmed the 2 true-positive PET findings, both in sentinel lymph nodes that were grossly positive at surgery.…”

“…Still others have observed rests of nevus cells within nodal tissue. 74,75 It is also possible that such cases represent malignant degeneration of pre-existing rests of nevus cells within lymph nodes, although this remains purely speculative. 3 Of concern to us are cases that lie outside the current criteria, which have developed within the literature.…”

“…Also, these compounds were tested for their antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus 3375 applying the agar diffusion method [52]. The antifungal screening results were determined by measuring the average diameter of the inhibition zones, expressed in millimeters.…”

“…Antimicrobial and antiquorum-sensing activities Compounds 3a-d, 4, 5a-c, 6a-c, 7a-c, 10a,b, 12a,b, and 15a-c were screened for their antibacterial activity against S. aureus, B. cereus, and E. coli in Luria-Bertani (LB) agar medium [50]. The same compounds were also screened for their antifungal activity against C. albicans in Sabouraud's agar medium and A. flavus 3375 in glucose minimal medium [50,52]. In addition, their antipathogenic potential was checked by examining the antiquorum-sensing activity against Ch.…”
