Node, place, ridership, and time model for rail-transit stations: a case study

Abstract: Nowadays, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) plays a vital role for public transport planners in developing potential city facilities. Knowing the necessity of this concept indicates that TOD effective parameters such as network accessibility (node value) and station-area land use (place value) should be considered in city development projects. To manage the coordination between these two factors, we need to consider ridership and peak and off-peak hours as essential enablers in our investigations. To aim this… Show more

“…In line with it, numerous studies about collaborative governance have been conducted in recent years [13,[19][20][21][22], highlighting their democratic and power-sharing nature [9,22]. Urban studies, such as those developed by Kamruzaman and others [23] and Amini Pishro and colleagues [24], have highlighted how mobility impacts communities and how approaches such as Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) offer strategies to overcome risks such as the displacement of communities [25], addressing governance challenges [26], influencing urban design for inclusion [27], and promoting the use of sustainable transport [28]. These approaches can balance environmental benefits with their social implications, highlighting the importance of collaborative governance that incorporates diverse voices to address power dynamics and ensure inclusive and equitable urban development.…”

“…Various forms of rail transit, including standard and light rail, suburban train, subway, and tram, are essential due to their high capacity, resilience to disruptions, and autonomy from road systems. The optimal place for promoting sustainability is near the rail transit hub [54,55]. Artificial intelligence technology, when combined with other methods, provides practical approaches to improve the sustainability of urban areas while maintaining their appeal for businesses and residents globally [56].…”

“…Furthermore, transportoriented development (TOD), as a strategic urban planning approach [17], emphasizes the creation of compact, multifunctional, and sustainable urban communities around transportation hubs. The application of this strategy requires the consideration of numerous factors, including criteria such as the layouts of public transport facilities [18], mixed land use [19], accessibility [20], and walkability [21]. With proper planning and design, TOD can effectively reduce car dependence, improve the utilization of public transportation, reduce carbon emissions, and create a livable urban environment.…”
