Solenoid operated electromagnetic control valve (ECV) using in an external variable displacement swash plate type compressor is widely used for air conditioning control system because of its low energy consumption and high efficient characteristics. ECV controls the entire vehicle air conditioning system by means of a pulse width modulation (PWM) system that supplied from an external controller. Different pressure ports located within ECV has important functions to control the air/refrigerant flow through its internal passages. The flow paths are preciously maintained with acceptable ranges of leakage (gap) between the parts inside it which is followed by effective design and critical dimensioning of its internal features. Therefore, it saves energy losses from the solenoid operation as well as ensures the balance of forces within it. The research paper highlights analysis of the leakages (at different pressure ports) and dimensioning tolerance factors that affects the ECV performance.

Electromagnetic control valve (ECV) controls an automobile vehicle air conditioning compressor based on a pulse width modulation (PWM) input signal that supplied from an external controller. For maintaining a suitable range of temperatures inside the vehicle, suction and crankcase port pressure controls the swash (wobble) plate at certain angle. Suction and crankcase port pressure controlled in ECV can be analyzed by experimental test by considering different technical assumptions. This research paper highlights the flow of air from crankcase port with correspondence with amount of variable supply of current to obtain the experimental test data which is important to maintain the vehicle temperature inside the compartment for passengers comfort.

Comparative analysis study of the flow characteristics and the experiment was done to try to present the orientation of the solenoid structure to be produced in the future. The comparative analysis of the analysis and experimental values was performed using the experiments and ANSYS CFD. 3D modeling of the structure are designed by the CATIA V5R18, meshing process of the flow section was used by ICEM CFD program. Flow rate was indicated by using the experimental values appear in 0-10 ℓ/min, the result of the flow analysis, was 0.18 ℓ/min Max. It was possible to suggest a solenoid structure more efficient through comparative analysis of experimental values and flow analysis.
