“…This is not surprising as these tumours are common tumours in adrenal gland. In the literature, approximately 20 cases have been documented (Caliumi et al 2004, Ong et al 2007, Lu et al 2008, Yamada et al 2011). Lu and coworkers analysed 17 cases reported in the literature and noted that they were often noted in females (male-to-female ratio = 1:3) and in the left adrenal gland (Lu et al 2008).…”

“…The cut surface is variegated with yellow and brown areas, depending on the ratio of adipose tissue and bone marrow tissue components 17 There are different hypotheses about the pathogenesis of myelolipoma. These may be summarized as 1) necrosis and hemorrhage stimulating the hematopoietic cells to migrate to the adrenal gland, 2) embolization of bone marrow, 3) misplacement of myeloid cells during embryogenesis, and 4) metaplastic changes of adrenal stromal cells 11 . Masugi et al suggested that high steroid hormone levels in the adrenal cortex suppress the production of a series of cytokines that stimulate interstitial cells such as fibroblasts which have metaplastic potential 19 .…”

“…19,21 Indeed, it has been proposed that due to the latent risk of rupture and hemorrhage, tumours less than 3.5 cm should also be treated surgically, especially in light minimally invasive surgical techniques. 28,29 The possibility of secondary infection or malignant transformation associated with tumour growth is another reason to adopt early tumour excision to achieve a better prognosis. In our study, the diameter of all the tumours was more than 3.5 cm.…”
