Non-Hodgkin lymphoma of bone in an HIV-infected patient from Argentina

Abstract: Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients are at higher risk for development of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). The estimated incidence of NHL in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is much higher when compared to the general population. Most AIDS-associated NHL are of intermediate-or high-grade B-cell type and involve extranodal sites more frequently. The most common sites are the central nervous system (CNS), gastrointestinal tract, liver, bone marrow and soft tissu… Show more

“…HIV‐infection carries a significant risk association with extranodal lymphomas. Persistent immunodeficiency, antigenic incitation, immunoreactivity, deregulated cytokine response and dendritic/T‐cell activation; plus the opportunistic oncogenic viruses like Epstein‐Barr virus (EBV) and human herpesvirus‐8 (HHV‐8) play the pivotal role in the pathogenesis of HIV‐associated lymphoma . NHL arises at a median age of 65 years in general population, while that age declines down to as low as 37 years in PHA .…”
