Non‐Newtonian gravity or gravity anomalies?

Abstract

We emphasize the importance of gravity anomalies in interpreting geophysical data, which has indicated a deviation from the Newtonian inverse square law. In particular, we point out that gravity anomalies, if not accounted for properly, mimic non‐Newtonian behavior. On the other hand, omitting them provides a false signal contributing to the “fifth” or “sixth” forces discussed recently. Basically, we utilize the equations which govern gravity meaurements made inside the Earth to consider the effects of long‐ and intermediate‐wavelength gravity anomalies.
