Non-Normal Super-Strict Implications

Abstract: This paper introduces the logics of super-strict implications that are based on C.I. Lewis' non-normal modal logics S2 and S3. The semantics of these logics is based on Kripke's semantics for non-normal modal logics. This solves a question we left open in a previous paper by showing that these logics are weakly connexive.

“…The logic of a conditional defined by this formula was also suggested by Priest [53, p. 145-6], and recently studied under the name of (weak) super-strict implication [15][16][17]. We could also call this conditional the possible-antecedent strict conditional.…”

“…In their discussions of conditionals, they often give examples that are overtly or covertly concessive. 16 It may be interesting to have a semantics that identifies what is common to all cases in which the linguistic structure If A, B is used (with or without the addition of words such as then, even, or still). Linguistic semanticists may go even further and try to indicate what is common in all uses of if, not only in 'If A, B' and related linguistic forms, but also in sentences containing to know if, to ask if, to wonder if, as if, etc.…”
