Non-purified commercial multiwalled carbon nanotubes supported on electrospun polyacrylonitrile@polypyrrole nanofibers as photocatalysts for water decontamination

Abstract: Under UV-Vis irradiation, the metallic impurities embedded in non-purified commercial carbon nanotubes generate radicals suitable for advanced oxidation processes. Semiconducting PPY membranes enhance the photo activity of a supported catalyst.

“…In this device, dissolved oxygen in water reacts with photoexcited electrons on PPy and other pollutants are degraded by radicals generated by charge-carrying "holes" on the carbon nanotubes [271]. In situ polymerized PEDOT on TiO 2 nanofibers have been found to improve the photocatalytic performance of bare TiO 2 and induce the degradation of the model pharmaceutical contaminant phenazopyridine in water [272].…”

“…The other two peaks are related to C−N/C−O/CN + /CN and the π−π* shakeup, respectively, at 286.2 and 288.1 eV. 37,47 Figure 2f exhibits the N 1s core level's deconvolution for the PNC4 composite. Among the four components, the peak at 399.9 eV, with the highest intensity corresponding to the N−H structure in the PPy ring, indicates neutral nitrogen content.…”
