Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: An Emerging Modern-Day Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease

Abstract: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), also named metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), is a progressive disease spectrum encompassing simple steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and cirrhosis. It is a clinically silent disease leading to multiple extra-hepatic complications/comorbidities. It is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), increasing susceptibility to hypertension, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia, myocardial dysfunction, cardiac valve… Show more

“…According to one of the systemic review published in 2018 derived from various studies Helicobacter Pylori was significantly associated with NALFD as reflected by odd ratio 1.21 with significantly enhanced risk of it among positive patients as proven by metaanalysis . 10 Further studies are needed that how this can be assessed in the clinical context was the main recommendation of the study further justifying our rationale for research.…”

“…Obesity, dyslipidemia and T2DM are well-known risk factors warranting priority in the risk assessment. The initial visit should test fasting glucose or glycosylated hemoglobin [50] . Monitoring cardiovascular risk scores (e.g., American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association or Framingham), and atherosclerosis (e.g., coronary artery calcification, carotid intima-media thickness, and carotid plaque) are recommended for risk prediction and reduction [51] .…”
