The aim was to examine the variation of linear and nonlinear proprieties of the behavior in participants with different levels of swimming expertise among the four swim strokes. Seventy-five swimmers were split into three groups (highly qualified experts, experts and nonexperts) and performed a maximal 25m trial for each of the four competitive swim strokes. A speed-meter cable was attached to the swimmer's hip to measure hip speed; from which speed fluctuation (dv), approximate entropy (ApEn) and fractal dimension (D) variables were derived. Although simple main effects of expertise and swim stroke were obtained for dv and D, no significant interaction of expertise and stroke were found except in ApEn. The ApEn and D were prone to decrease with increasing expertise. As a conclusion, swimming does exhibit nonlinear properties but its magnitude differs according to the swim stroke and level of expertise of the performer.

Quite often linear variables are not sensitive enough to explain the changes in the motor behavior of elite athletes. So, non-linear variables should be selected.The aim was to compare the fractal dimension before and after a maximal bout swimming front-crawl. Twenty-four subjects performed an all-out 100m trial swimming front-crawl. Immediately before (Pre-test) and after the trial (Post-test) a speed-meter cable was attached to the swimmer's waist to measure the hip speed from which fractal dimension was derived. The fractal dimension showed a significant decrease with a moderate effect size between pre-and post-tests. Twenty-one out of 24 swimmers decreased the fractal dimension. As a conclusion, there is a decrease in the fractal dimension and hence in the swimming behavior complexity being under fatigue after a maximal trial.

From the second half of the 1990s, thanks to more affordable and more powerful information technology and electronical systems for recording based on miniaturized sensors, we can observe a more intensive development of a method of data analysis and a system that monitors the physical and psychological conditions of soldiers. Systems for measuring and evaluation methods of physical and medical data for the diagnostics of physical and psychological state have significantly spread, especially in clinical practice. This study, however, examines the current technologies and usage of the wearable monitoring systems in military field. The result of this study is not only the not-yet published summary of the current state, but also the proposed possibilities of usage and recommendation of specific systems, their sensors and system methods in the military. Thus, the article can serve as a guide for choosing suitable and affordable electronical wearable systems and methods of quantitative evaluation of physical and psychological conditions of people in the military.
