Nonlinear characteristic analysis of gear rattle based on refined dynamic model

Abstract: In order to explore the vibration response and the nonlinear behavior of gear rattle, a nonlinear dynamic model is developed in this paper considering the nonlinear oil film force, timevarying meshing stiffness, dragging torque and friction and gear backlash with time-varying characteristics. The time-varying meshing stiffness is calculated using the potential energy method. Considering the convolution and extrusion of the lubricant between the teeth, it is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damped element and a no… Show more

“…The nonlinear dynamic behaviour of the vibroimpact pairs subjected to external periodical excitation has been studied experimentally and numerically. Examples are A Kahraman et al [36,37] and, most recently, D Guo et al [38], A Donmez and A Kahraman [39]. As such, the rattle bifurcation diagram shows the period-doubling routine to chaos and follows Feigenbaum's universal scale.…”

“…In the field of system dynamics, which focuses on torsional vibrations occurring in a vehicle driveline with symmetric conditions, numerous studies have been conducted to improve noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) qualities . These studies have aimed to identify the main causes of NVH problems, such as gear rattle and whine noise, by comprehending the basic mechanisms of drivelines with gear pairs and their dynamic characteristics through both linear and nonlinear analyses [10][11][12][13]. To determine the key parameters related to the specific noise and vibration issues, linear analysis can be performed as a fundamental step to reveal the critical system parameters relevant to the NVH problems in question [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].…”

“…Guo et al suggested a comprehensive nonlinear model to investigate the effects of influencing parameters such as drag torque, nonlinear oil film force, lubricant viscosity, time-varying meshing stiffness, friction force, and gear backlash. This study demonstrated a nonlinear dynamic model of gear rattling that considered the combined effects of the aforementioned parameters and their severity [10]. Shangguan et al presented a nonlinear torsional model for a driveline system with four degrees of freedom to study gear rattle under idling conditions [11].…”
