Nonlinear compensation for indoor visible light communication systems with carrierless amplitude and phase modulation

Abstract: Although there are enormous available bandwidths for license-free visible light communication (VLC), a relatively narrow modulation bandwidth of LED is still an obstacle for further application. The carrierless amplitude and phase (CAP) modulation is a high spectral efficiency modulation technology which has begun to draw more attention in recent years. However, to meet the illumination of indoor VLC, the nonlinear interference is quite serious because of multipath fading channels. Thus, the spectrum efficienc… Show more

“…Due to the simplicity of implementation and low-cost, intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM/DD)-based architectures are preferred to meet the demand of short-reach applications. Several advanced modulation formats such as pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) [4]- [6], discrete multitone (DMT) [4], [7]- [9], and carrierless amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) [10], [11], have been studied in the past using the IM/DD paradigm. Among them, PAM has garnered the most attention due to its ease of implementation and lower power consumption compared to DMT and CAP formats [5], [12]- [15].…”
