Nonlinear Dynamics of a Star-Shaped Structure and Variable Configuration of Elastic Elements for Energy Harvesting Applications

Abstract: The subject of the model research contained in this paper is a new design solution of the energy harvesting system with a star-shaped structure of elastic elements and variable configuration. Numerical experiments focused mainly on the assessment of the configuration of elastic elements in the context of energy harvesting efficiency. The results of computer simulations were limited to zero initial conditions as it is the natural position of the static equilibrium. The article compares the energy efficiency for… Show more

“…This qualitative relationship between the system response and the control parameter can be acquired from a bifurcation diagram. 50,51 The regions of selected period-3 and chaotic responses with the excitation amplitude A as a control parameter are shown in Figure 10(a) when there is no damage. The chaotic response, bounded by the blue box, is indicated by a wide band of points sampled from steady-state responses; its complex temporal pattern can be observed in Figure 11(e).…”

“…All of these MLCCs advantages are due to the high-level permittivity dielectric material, Barium Titanate (BaTiO 3 ), they are made of [ 10 , 11 , 12 ]. Ironically, the two main electro-mechanical properties of the BaTiO 3 cause one of the newest problems in electronic devices: the singing capacitors phenomenon [ 13 ].…”

“…In that context, the quasi-zero stiffness case is a simplified realization of multiple equilibria coming from the flattened series of many potential wells [ 48 , 49 ] or case-characterized by the potential at the bifurcation point between monostable and bistable potentials [ 51 ] with respect to the control parameter. Such a solution was also proposed and proven to be useful for energy harvesting [ 52 , 53 ].…”

“…Consequently, the mechanical resonator system of the energy harvester is effectively approximated by a 2DOF system. In this way, the above-mentioned design solutions and examples of the use of 2DOF quasi-zero stiffness energy harvesters were the motivation to analyze a new solution, which is an extension of single DOF structures proposed and published by the same authors [ 52 , 53 ]. Note also that the subject of the model research contained in this paper is a new design of the energy generation system with a two-stage flexible cantilever beam and a quasi-zero stiffness system.…”
